Why Electric Foiling Changes the Equation

Conventional fast patrol boats operating at 30 knots are planing hulls: they produce massive wake, a large radar cross-section at the waterline, significant acoustic signature from engine and propeller cavitation, and a visible exhaust heat plume. They require continuous diesel fuel resupply and generate noise that compromises their own sensor suite at speed.

The foiling electric hull at equivalent speeds operates in a fundamentally different signature regime. With the hull clear of the water surface, radar cross-section is reduced to the struts and the minimal hull contact area. Wake is reduced to a fraction of displacement wake. There is no engine noise, no cavitation, no exhaust — and therefore no exhaust heat signature detectable in the IR band.

Electric propulsion eliminates the diesel fuel supply chain entirely. Forward basing on small islands, remote coastal stations, or austere logistics environments becomes feasible without fuel storage and transfer infrastructure. Charging from shore power, solar, or a generator is operationally simpler than diesel resupply.

The combination of foiling hull form and electric propulsion creates a mission profile — high speed, low signature, minimal logistics — that does not exist in current maritime law enforcement or small defense vessel inventories.

This is a commercial platform. PamliEcoConnect is designed as a passenger ferry for the Pamlico Sound crossing. That commercial foundation means an existing build program, supply chain, and operator experience base. Defense and enforcement adaptation can be layered onto a proven hull without starting from a purpose-built procurement cycle.

Performance figures are design targets, not measured results. These pages describe several vessel designs in general terms. Range is a function of installed battery capacity, which is specified per route - each vessel is configured with the pack its intended service requires, plus reserve. Range figures are quoted at a 25-knot cruise, the current best-available foiling technology; any higher speed shown is a max-speed estimate, and range falls as speed rises. Actual performance also varies with hull form, foil configuration, load, and throttle setting. Refer to the specific design specification for each vessel. No figure is validated until sea trials.
